The exam isn't hard.
Preparing for it is.

😰

"What if I fail?"

Fail the exam and you wait 30 days. Fail twice, you wait 60. That's lost income while your competitors keep working.

📚

The NASCLA book is 1,000 pages

Most tradesmen don't fail because of trade knowledge. They fail because they can't navigate the open-book reference fast enough.

Everything you want to know.

Straight answers, no jargon.

The MHIC exam is 55 questions, 2 hours 30 minutes, and is open-book. It's taken at a PSI testing center (Baltimore, College Park, Frederick, Lanham, Crofton, Hagerstown, or Salisbury). You need 70% (39 correct) to pass. Exam fee is $63 per attempt.
Two things. From the state: you wait 30 days to retake (60 days after a second fail), and pay the $63 fee again. From us: retake the class for free AND we cover your $63 retake fee. That's the pass guarantee.
Yes — the $599 class includes a pre-tabbed NASCLA Contractors Guide (6th Edition, Maryland). We tab and highlight it for you so you can find any section in under 30 seconds during the exam. If you only want the book, it's $99 separately.
Yes — Maryland requires 2 years of trade experience to qualify for the MHIC license. One of those years can be substituted with related education or business management experience. We help you document this on your application.
After passing the exam, you'll pay the state $281.25 application fee + $100 Guaranty Fund = $381.25 total. Your license is valid for 2 years with no continuing education requirement.
As of June 1, 2024, every MHIC contractor must carry $500,000 in general liability insurance (up from $50,000). We cover this in detail in class and connect you with agents who price MHIC contractors fairly.
Sí — ofrecemos la clase en español. Our instructor teaches Maryland law and the NASCLA reference in Spanish. Email Info@MHICprep.com to ask about the next Spanish-language session.
